Donations to Gloucestershire Charity in Honour of Partner's Memory

Donations in memory of Dan Cambridge, partner with Cheltenham law firm Harrison Clark Rickerbys, will fund three new chemotherapy chairs for the FOCUS charity at Gloucestershire Oncology Centre in Cheltenham, and the charity will also benefit from most of the money raised at a Great Gatsby-themed ball.

Dan, who died in January, aged 36, after a long illness, was treated at the oncology centre, and his widow Gwyn wanted to enable other patients to receive treatment in greater comfort - the new rise-and-recline chairs offer more support and help with movement.

The ball, held at Hatherley Manor, raised almost £20,000 and FOCUS will receive £15,000 of that, with the rest going to other local good causes supported by the firm's own charitable trust. With a live jazz band, Charleston dancers, and an MC/auctioneer dressed as a gangster, ready to relieve guests of their cash - one auction lot attracted a £6,000 bid - the event also featured a casino.

Simon Gilmour, partner with the firm's employment team, said: This year saw the very sad passing of one of our partners, Dan Cambridge. In his memory, we pledged that a large proportion of the proceeds from this ball would go to FOCUS who treated Dan and looked after him so very well. The evening was a great success, and guests were very generous, which the charities will very much appreciate.

The chemotherapy chairs will be used by patients from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, south Worcestershire and parts of Wales who are treated in Gloucester.

Dan joined the firm in 2006 and had been a partner in the insolvency team since 2010.

Harrison Clark Rickerbys has 400 staff and partners based at offices in Cheltenham, the Wye Valley, Hereford, Worcester, Birmingham and the Thames Valley, who provide a complete spectrum of legal services to both business and private clients, regionally and nationwide. The firm also has a number of highly successful teams specialising in individual market sectors, including health and social care, education, agricultural and rural affairs, defence, security and the forces, advanced manufacturing and construction.
