Forums at Star College share Best Practice

Members of the Leaders and Executive Forums met at the National Star College on Wednesday and Thursday last week.

Members of the Leaders and Executive Forums met at the National Star College on Wednesday and Thursday last week.  Full house for both Forums. They heard from Pete Johnson, Commercial Manager about the Star College and opportunities to work with them including how you can get involved with the work experience programme, hiring out rooms and the availability of residential space outside of term times.  Also opportunities to utilise the golf course and outdoor space including Glamping!  

These Forums were closed groups no external facilitators or guests.  It was an opportunity for businesses to share with each other their focus for 2016 and discuss some of their challenges. Topics round the table included - collaboration; recruitment; cultural change and managing growth.  

The Executive Forum also discussed some of the business books they have read recently and members borrowed such books as the Chimp Paradox; Who Stole My Cheese and LEADing in Small Business. They also looked at Belbin and how that can be used in their teams.

Symon Hindmarsh-Bye talked about The Commercial Foundation who had just won a grant from The Growth Hub/LEP for £40,000 and also developed a partnerships with Lloyds Bank. They will train 50 young people each year helping them gain skills. increase their confidence and get them work ready.
